Or Rick being trapped as a pickle and having to figure his way out of that situation. Or Rick's car finding more and more creative ways to protect Summer under increasingly restrictive restrictions. For example, I love the episode where they store the wine in that universe with accelerated time and we see how a few visits from Morty over the course of an afternoon shape an entire society dedicated to stopping him. My favorite episodes are the ones where they take some concept and really play with it. I'm sure I'll be happy with whatever they end up doing with that, even if they just decide to abandon it entirely.
It was nice seeing some background on Rick in the most recent episode, but I genuinely don't care about Evil Morty at all.
And not every show needs to be that.įrankly, I'm not even all that invested in the "story" of Rick & Morty. People want every show to be a story-heavy epic. Enjoy it for what it is!Įdit: To be clear these episodes being important is more my opinion than anything else, ABC's of Beth and Ricksy Business should be included which would mean that approximately 20% of the episodes are "more" important in terms of story development. Criticism is fine but just hating something because it isn't what you wanted isn't cool. Be patient and trust that the creators know what they are doing rather than just hating on them week after week. TLDR: Rick and Morty, season 5 included, is the show that you signed up for, filler episodes and all. S5 E8 - Rickternal Friendshine of the Spotless Mort ( Tons of canon, bird person and Rick’s origin, original beth is dead, lots of stuff) S4 E10 - Star Mort Rickturn of the Jerri (We meet beths clone or regular beth and she joins the cast, bird person is kept by rick) S3 E10 - The Rickchurian Mortydate (Jerry rejoins the family) S3 E7 - The Ricklantis Mixup (We see the rise of evil morty) S3 E1 - The Rickshank Redemption (Rick destroys the citadel and causes Jerry to leave the family (also potentially we see the death of Beth and Diane) S2 E10 - The Wedding Squanchers (Bird person dies and Rick leaves the family) S1 E10 - Close Rick-counters of the Rick Kind (First appearance of evil morty) S1E6 - Rick Potion #9 (Rick and Morty Leave earth C-137) Keep in mind that the next two episodes of season 5 may be super important to the story which would mean that season 5 has more "story" then almost every other season. I know that not everyone will agree with me in terms of which episodes are the most important canonically speaking, however, I believe that these episodes move the story forward the most. The changes that have taken place in each character are natural and flow throughout the show! That being said almost every other episode including those in season 5 have tons of character growth in them. Its the formula that makes the show great! We see the goofy adventures of Rick and Morty interspersed with some deeply serialized elements that help us to grow along with the characters. Rick and Morty is mostly an episodic show that throws in nuggets of canon occasionally. I saw posts yesterday that said (in reference to last nights episode) "this is the Rick and Morty I signed up for." If this is the Rick and Morty that you signed up for than you only like the show for 8 episodes. I probably put more time and effort into this than I should've however I think its important that people be patient and realize that the way this season has been going is similar to every other season of rick and Morty.
